Rules for Document Submission Based on Date of Birth
The requirements for submitting documents vary significantly based on the individual’s year of birth. The table below simplifies whose documents are needed in which scenario:
| Date of Birth Range | Required Documents & Rules |
|---|---|
| Before 01/07/1987 | Individuals born before July 1, 1987, whose names do not appear in the 2002 Voter List, must submit any one of the above-mentioned documents as proof of their own date of birth or place of birth. |
| 01/07/1987 to 02/12/2004 | For those born within this period (whose or whose family’s name is not in the 2002 list), proof of their own birth must be submitted along with the proof of either the father or the mother. |
| After 02/12/2004 | The rules are stricter for those born after 2004. In this case, it is mandatory to submit their own documents along with the documents of both the father and the mother. If a parent is not an Indian citizen, a valid passport and visa from the time of birth must be shown. |
Important Notes and Guidelines
While preparing for the hearing, please keep the following special points in mind:
- Born Abroad: If someone was born outside India, a Birth Certificate issued by the Indian Embassy in that respective country is required.
- Citizenship by Registration: Those who have acquired citizenship through naturalization or registration must produce the original certificate of such registration.
- Affidavits: previously, affidavits were accepted for correcting spelling errors or age discrepancies. However, under current guidelines, affidavits are often not accepted in many cases. Therefore, reliance on official government documents is strongly advised.
Most importantly, if you receive a hearing notice, it will specifically mention which documents are required for your particular case. Instead of panicking, it is wise to read the notice carefully and organize your documents according to the list provided above.
