Oasis Scholarship New Rules 2026 Mandatory OTR Update for ST Students and SC Scheme Details
Oasis Scholarship New Rules: The West Bengal government runs various welfare schemes to support students from backward classes in their educational journey. Among these, the ‘OASIS Scholarship’ is one of the most popular initiatives. Through this scholarship, financial assistance is provided annually to students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Recently, a crucial update has been published on the OASIS portal, which is mandatory for students, especially those from the ST category, to follow.
Mandatory Registration on National Scholarship Portal
Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, a significant change has been introduced in the OASIS application process. The notification clearly states that the procedure for ST (Scheduled Tribe) students to apply for scholarships has been updated.
- Mandatory OTR: ST students applying for both Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships must now complete the ‘One-Time Registration’ (OTR) process on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) before applying on the OASIS portal.
- The Next Step: Only after successfully generating the OTR ID on the NSP portal can students proceed to apply on the OASIS portal. In simpler terms, without registering on NSP, ST students will no longer be able to submit their applications on OASIS.
Financial Assistance for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students
Apart from the rule changes for ST students, the scholarship remains a vital support system for Scheduled Caste (SC) students. The government aims to ensure that no SC student drops out of education due to financial constraints.
Scholarship Amount:
Depending on the course and level of education, students from school to college and university levels receive an annual grant ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹13,500. The primary objective of this scheme is to significantly increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of Scheduled Caste students in higher education.
Details of Pre-Matric & Post-Matric Schemes
The scholarship for SC students is primarily divided into two main categories:
Pre-Matric Scholarship: Designed for students studying before the secondary level.
- Component I: Applicable for students from families within a specific income limit.
- Component II: Dedicated to children of parents engaged in unclean or hazardous occupations. In this category, there is no income ceiling or restrictions based on caste or religion.
Post-Matric Scholarship: This scheme covers SC students who have passed their secondary exams and are pursuing studies from Class XI onwards in various recognized institutions, colleges, and universities.
Students are advised not to wait for the deadline and to start their application process immediately. ST students, in particular, must ensure they complete the NSP OTR process first to avoid any issues with their OASIS application.
