New LPG Cylinder Booking Rules Changed: Check New Delivery Waiting Period

New LPG Cylinder Booking Rule: Oil companies have introduced significant changes to the booking rules for domestic cooking gas cylinders. Keeping the current global scenario in mind, consumers will now have to wait a mandatory 21 days between receiving one gas cylinder and the delivery of the next. Previously, this waiting period was set at 15 days. This means that even if a consumer requires a refill sooner, the next delivery will only be processed after the 21-day lock-in period. The internal software of gas distribution agencies has already been updated to enforce this new guideline. However, oil marketing companies have assured the public that there is absolutely no shortage of LPG. To ensure a seamless supply chain, bottling plants are even operating on Sundays to prevent any disruptions.

Annual Gas Cylinder Quota

According to the existing framework set by oil companies, there is a strict limit on how many domestic cylinders a consumer can purchase in a single financial year (from April 1 to March 31). A standard household connection is entitled to a maximum of 15 cylinders annually. Out of these, 12 are provided at subsidized rates, while the remaining three must be purchased at the regular non-subsidized market price. This overall annual quota remains entirely unchanged under the new system.

Delivery and Future Booking Guidelines

As of now, the fundamental procedure to book a cylinder remains untouched. Consumers are free to book their next refill immediately after receiving their current cylinder. However, the catch is that the physical delivery of this second cylinder will only take place once the 21-day timeframe is completed. Interestingly, the traditional mandate requiring agencies to deliver cylinders within 24 hours of a valid, eligible booking is still in effect, ensuring quick service once the waiting period is officially over. Furthermore, the ministry is reportedly exploring the possibility of fully restricting the booking action itself until 21 days have passed since the last delivery.

Commercial LPG Cylinder Price Hike

Apart from domestic households, the commercial sector is also facing updates. Effective March 7, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has seen a sharp increase of ₹115. Following this revision, a commercial cylinder now costs ₹1,883 in the national capital, Delhi. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, India’s financial hub, businesses will have to shell out ₹1,835 for the exact same 19-kg commercial cylinder.
