Higher Secondary Exam: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has introduced a groundbreaking change to the Higher Secondary examination rules. From now on, candidates will no longer have to write their names on the answer sheets. This new rule will be effective from the upcoming two semesters. Why Was This New Rule Introduced?
The President of the Higher Secondary Education Council, Shri Chiranjib Bhattacharya, has stated that the primary objective of this change is to increase transparency in the examination process. According to him, having a candidate’s name on the answer sheet can create an opportunity for identification, which could potentially influence the evaluation. By using only the Roll Number, Registration Number, and Question Paper Serial Number instead of the name, the answer script will remain completely anonymous to the examiner. This will result in a more impartial evaluation process.
In the words of the Council President, “If the name is written on the answer sheet, it can be easily identified. We want to conduct the examination with greater transparency.” This system will also reduce the risk of losing answer sheets, as each script can be easily identified by its unique codes.
What Do Students Need to Do Now?
Instead of their name, candidates will now have to accurately write the following three details on the OMR sheet and the main answer script:
- Roll Number
- Registration Number
- Question Paper Serial Number
Importance of and Precautions for the OMR Sheet
The upcoming third-semester examination of the Higher Secondary, scheduled to begin on September 8th, will be conducted on OMR sheets. Students have been advised to be particularly careful while filling out these OMR sheets.
- No Room for Error: If crucial information like the Roll Number or Registration Number is entered incorrectly or the wrong bubbles are shaded on the OMR sheet, the answer script may be cancelled. Since these sheets are evaluated by computers, even a minor mistake can lead to a major problem.
- Provision for Training: The Council has instructed schools to provide necessary training to students on how to fill out the OMR sheet correctly.
- Opportunity to Practice: To facilitate practice for students, a sample or soft copy of the OMR sheet has been uploaded to the official website of the Higher Secondary Education Council. Candidates can download it and practice at home to avoid any difficulties on the day of the examination.
Therefore, this change is extremely important for Higher Secondary candidates. Instead of the old habit of writing their name, they must now focus on accurately writing their roll number and other codes. With proper practice and caution, adapting to this new system will not be difficult at all.
