Big Update: WBSSC Teacher Recruitment 2025 Notification Out! Deadline, Eligibility, New Rules Explained

WBSSC Teacher Recruitment 2025: Ending the anticipation and addressing longstanding concerns of the state’s residents, the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) has published a new notification for teacher recruitment. This notification was issued on Friday, within 24 hours of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement. This step has been taken in adherence to the deadline set by the Supreme Court, which is expected to bring transparency and speed to the recruitment process. This new notification is highly significant following allegations of corruption in the previous recruitment process and the court-ordered cancellation of nearly 26,000 teacher appointments.
Key Highlights of the New Notification:
Several important changes have been introduced in this recruitment drive, primarily aimed at ensuring transparency and the fair evaluation of eligible candidates.
- Examination Pattern and Marks Distribution: According to the new rules, for the recruitment of assistant teachers for classes IX-X and XI-XII, the written examination will be for a total of 60 marks. Previously, it was 55 marks. The marks allocated for academic qualifications have been reduced from 35 to 10. For the recruitment of teachers at the upper primary level (classes VI-VIII), passing the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) remains mandatory. Here, the maximum weightage for TET scores will be 40, the written test will be for 25 marks, and the interview for 15 marks. In some cases, marks have also been allocated for teaching experience and lecture demonstration, up to a maximum of 10 and 5 marks respectively.
- Preservation of OMR Sheets: To ensure transparency, significant changes have been made to the rules for preserving OMR sheets (answer scripts). It is now mandatory to preserve the hard copy of the OMR sheet for 2 years after the expiry of the panel and the scanned copy for 10 years.
- Age Limit and Relaxation: The age limit for general candidates has been set at 21 to 40 years (as of January 1, 2025). However, as per the Supreme Court’s directive, there will be special age relaxation for candidates who lost their jobs from the 2016 panel. Their experience will also be evaluated.
- Deadline for Completing Recruitment Process: According to the Supreme Court’s order, this entire recruitment process, which includes conducting the examination to issuing final appointment letters, must be completed by December 31, 2025.

Chief Minister’s Assurance and Government’s Actions:
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced at a press conference at Nabanna that the new recruitment notification would be published by May 30, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order. She further assured that eligible teachers who lost their jobs need not be disheartened. They will be given age relaxation and benefits based on their experience. The state government has also filed a review petition on this matter, but the new recruitment process has been initiated as per the court’s directive. Through this recruitment process, a target has been set to fill approximately 24,000 existing vacancies along with creating nearly 20,000 new posts, totaling around 44,000 teacher appointments, which is a massive recruitment drive in the history of West Bengal.
Transparency and the Future:
The state government and the SSC have taken multiple steps to clear the teacher recruitment process, which has been repeatedly marred by allegations of corruption. Measures such as publishing OMR sheets, videography, and providing an opportunity to challenge answer scripts have been incorporated into this process. This new notification and the revised rules are expected to usher in a new era in West Bengal’s education sector, and it is hoped that deserving candidates will secure their rightful jobs. The state’s lakhs of job aspirants will be keenly watching how transparently and smoothly this recruitment process is conducted in the coming days.
