DA Case Update: State government employees’ dearness allowance case takes a new turn in contempt of court case

DA Case Update: The Dearness Allowance (DA) case of the state government employees has taken a new turn. Two contempt of court cases have been filed against the state government, which has created a lot of excitement among the employees. In this blog post, we will discuss in detail the latest situation of this case, the reasons behind it and what may happen in the coming days.

Contempt of court allegations

Two major employee organizations have filed contempt of court cases against the state government.

  • Confederation of State Government Employees: This organization filed a contempt of court case against the state government on July 2. However, there was a minor error in this case. The name of the state’s chief secretary, Manoj Panth, was mistakenly written as Manish Panth, for which a letter has been sent for correction.
  • Sarkari Karmachari Parishad: On July 21, this organization also filed a contempt of court case against the state’s chief secretary, Manoj Panth.

What is the basis of the case?

The main basis of these cases is an interim order of the Supreme Court. On May 16, 2025, the Supreme Court had given an interim order to the state government to pay 25% dearness allowance to the employees. The complaint is that the state government did not follow that order. It is for this reason that the employee organizations have taken the path of contempt of court.

Current status of the case

From the current status of the case, it is clear that it is a contempt of court petition. Although no separate date has been fixed for these new cases yet, it is expected that all related cases may be heard together on August 4. On that day, it will be clear in which direction this case will proceed and what steps the state government is going to take.

Employees’ expectations

The state government employees have been fighting for their due dearness allowance for a long time. Even after the Supreme Court’s order, they are frustrated and angry as it has not been paid. This contempt of court case has given a new dimension to their fight. Now all eyes are on the next hearing of the court. The employees are hoping that the court will rule in their favor and the state government will soon pay the outstanding dearness allowance.

This case is not only a fight for the financial rights of the employees, but it is also a question of constitutional obligation to follow the court’s order. Needless to say, the verdict of this case in the coming days will have a deep impact on the relationship between the state and the employees.
