GPF Statement WB: Problems with Your AG Bengal GPF Statement? Know the Easy Solutions

GPF Statement WB: Recently, the Accountant General (AG), West Bengal, has released the GPF statements for government employees for the financial year 2024-25. This was announced via a notification on July 21st. After downloading the statement, many employees are facing some common issues that are causing concern. However, there is no need to worry, as most of these problems have simple solutions. In this post, we will discuss these issues and their remedies in detail.

Common Problems and Their Solutions

Government employees are primarily facing three to four main issues. Each problem and its solution are discussed step-by-step below.

1. Amount Moved to ‘Balance III’ (Unauthorised Balance)

This is a frequent problem. If the GPF amount deducted in any month is less than 6% or more than 100% of your Basic Pay, that excess or deficit amount is shown in ‘Balance III’.

  • Reason: This issue mainly arises due to discrepancies in the subscription rate. For doctors under WBHS or WBMES cadres or BLDOs who receive Non-Practising Pay (NPP), the percentage is calculated on the sum of Basic Pay and NPP.
  • Solution:
    • First, identify the months in which less money was deducted. For example, if ₹4,000 was supposed to be deducted monthly, but only ₹3,000 was deducted, there is a shortfall of ₹1,000 per month.
    • The total deficit amount must be deposited via a TR 7C challan under the head of account 8009-01-101-001-19. Remember not to deposit even one rupee extra.
    • Next, write a letter to the AG office for the regularization of the amount (to transfer it from Balance III to Balance I), enclosing a copy of the accounts slip and the TR 7C challan.
    • If the deduction exceeds 100% of the basic pay, that amount will be refunded at the time of retirement without any interest.

2. Missing Credit

It is often seen that even though money has been deducted from the salary, it is shown as ‘Missing Credit’ in the statement.

  • Reason: This can happen if the schedule is not sent from the DDO’s office on time or due to a human error during data entry.
  • Solution:
    • Write a letter addressed to the AG (A&E) with details from the preceding month of the missing credit, including the bill number and date, TV number and date, gross and net amount of the bill, and your GPF number.
    • You can also submit this information online. In that case, upload the necessary details along with a copy of your pay slip. Informing through either offline or online mode will suffice.

3. Basic Pay Shown Incorrectly or as Zero (0)

Sometimes, the basic pay as of March 31, 2024, is shown incorrectly or as zero in the statement. This can also cause the subscription amount to exceed 100% and move to Balance III.

  • Reason: This is usually a simple data entry error.
  • Solution: There is no need to deposit any money for this. Simply write a letter to the AG office with a copy of your March 2024 pay slip and the accounts slip, and they will rectify it.

Some Important Information

  • Subscription Change: As per Finance Department Order No. 8912-F(J), you can increase your subscription a maximum of twice and decrease it once within a financial year (March to the following February). Exceeding this limit may also cause the amount to be moved to Balance III.
  • Other Errors: If there is a spelling mistake in your name or if your nomination status shows ‘N’ even after submission, these can be corrected by sending a letter to the AG with appropriate proof.
  • For New Subscribers: Those who have recently started their GPF contributions should note one thing: the amount deducted from the salary of a particular month gets credited to the GPF account in the following month. For example, a deduction from May’s salary will reflect in the statement for June. This is a normal process.
