Primary Teachers to Invigilate HS Exams: A Major Shift in West Bengal’s Education

Primary Teachers to Invigilate HS Exams: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has released a set of new rules for the third-semester examination, bringing significant changes to this year’s exam system. For the first time, the examination will be conducted on OMR sheets. Among the new regulations, the most crucial decision is that to address the teacher shortage, permanent teachers from primary and upper-primary schools will also be able to act as invigilators. This move opens a new horizon in the conduct of examinations.
Solution to Teacher Shortage
The council stated that there were concerns about the availability of the required number of teachers in many examination centers. To find a permanent solution to this problem, permanent teachers from primary and upper-primary levels will now be able to perform the duties of invigilators during the higher secondary examinations. As a result, there will be no more obstacles in conducting the exams, and it will be possible to complete the examination process smoothly. This is a groundbreaking step, as previously only higher secondary level teachers were given this responsibility.
Key Aspects of the New Examination System
Several other major changes have been introduced to the examination system this year. The council has taken some important steps keeping in mind the convenience of the students and to make the examination process more secure.
- Examination on OMR Sheet: The entire assessment for the third semester will be based on the OMR sheet. Therefore, this is a very important matter for the students.
- Online Admit Card: Students will now be able to download their admit cards online themselves. If a student forgets to bring the admit card on the first day, their exam will not be canceled. However, they must bring the admit card on the second day.
- Special Arrangements for Monsoon: As the examination is being held during the monsoon season, special arrangements have been made for examination centers in flood-prone areas. If necessary, these centers may also be changed. Special precautions have been taken to protect the question papers and OMR sheets.
- Transportation of OMR Sheets: To prevent the OMR sheets from getting wet due to rain, they will not be sent by train. These sheets will be transported by car from the examination center to the council’s camp office.
- Strict Security: Students will not be allowed to use the restroom during the examination. Although the rule for canceling the entire exam if a mobile phone or any electronic gadget was found has been modified, any misbehavior by a student can lead to the cancellation of all their exams.
These new rules are extremely important for both students and teachers. It is hoped that these steps by the council will make the examination system more transparent and secure.
