Relief for West Bengal Government Employees! Previous Order Cancelling Leave Kept in Abeyance

There’s significant news for West Bengal government employees. The state’s Finance Department has decided to keep its earlier order from May 7, 2025, which cancelled employee leave, in abeyance. A new order regarding this was issued on June 4, 2025. Let’s delve into the details.

Detailed News:

New Order (Notification No. 2085-F(P2)):
The Finance Department, Government of West Bengal, issued a new order (Notification No. 2085-F(P2)) on June 4, 2025. According to this order, the Finance Department’s earlier order No. 1684-F(P2) dated 07/05/2025, regarding the cancellation of leave for Government of West Bengal employees, is kept in abeyance until further orders. This order is signed by P.K. Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of West Bengal.

Previous Order Kept in Abeyance (Notification No. 1684-F(P2)):
Previously, on May 7, 2025, the Finance Department had issued an order (No. 1684-F(P2)). In view of the prevailing situation and in the interest of maintenance of public services, that order stated that all leave sanctioned to the employees of the Government of West Bengal, except leave on medical ground, stood cancelled with immediate effect. Furthermore, it stipulated that no official shall leave their headquarters without the written permission of their respective Heads of the Departments. This order was issued in the public interest and was to remain effective until further orders.

What Does This Mean for Employees?

As a result of this new order (No. 2085-F(P2)), the previous stringent rules regarding leave cancellation are now relaxed for the time being. This means the leave cancellation order of May 7, 2025, is not currently in effect. The term “kept in abeyance” signifies that the operation of the previous leave cancellation order is temporarily suspended.

Important Advice:

  • Since the previous order has only been “kept in abeyance”, it could potentially be reinstated or a new directive might be issued depending on future circumstances. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly check the Finance Department’s website and other official government sources for updates.

This is undoubtedly relieving news for government employees. However, it is prudent to obtain accurate information and guidelines from respective departments before making any final decisions regarding leave. Stay tuned to official announcements for further updates.
