SIR West Bengal: 34 Lakh Names Removed from Voter List! Sensation Over Aadhaar Authority’s Report, Commission Takes Strict Action
SIR West Bengal: Amidst the nationwide drive to revise voter lists, the Aadhaar authority (UIDAI) has shared some sensational information with the Election Commission. According to sources, approximately 34 lakh names, mostly of deceased individuals, have been removed from the Aadhaar database. Following this revelation, the Election Commission has intensified its process of weeding out fake, dead, and duplicate names from the electoral rolls.
Sensational Report from Aadhaar Authority
In a recent meeting with the Election Commission, the Aadhaar authority disclosed this critical information. The report states that a total of 34 lakh names have been removed from the Aadhaar list as they belong to deceased individuals. Additionally, another 13 lakh deceased persons were identified who did not possess an Aadhaar card. The removal of this vast number of names has given a new direction to the voter list revision process.
The Aadhaar authority primarily gathered this data through banks and the KYC (Know Your Customer) process. Since Aadhaar is linked to bank accounts, information about a person’s demise reaches the authority when their bank account becomes inactive. This initiative was taken to identify individuals whose KYC has not been updated for a long time or who are deceased on paper but their names still exist on the voter list.
Commission’s Strict Action and Guidelines
The Election Commission has sprung into action after receiving the report from the Aadhaar authority. To ensure an error-free voter list, the commission is relying on two primary sources:

Join on Telegram- Aadhaar Authority’s Data: The list of deceased voters provided by UIDAI is being thoroughly scrutinised.
- BLO’s Field Survey: Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door verification of information.
The draft and final voter lists will be prepared based on these two sets of data. The Commission has issued a stern warning to all BLOs. It has been directed that if any ghost voter, deceased voter, or duplicate name is found in the draft list, strict action will be taken against the concerned BLO. Instructions have been given to work with “utmost caution” and “diligence” to prevent any such errors in the final list.
