Special Education Teachers: The long wait is finally over for job aspirants in the state. The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has issued an official notification for the recruitment of Special Education Teachers in primary schools across the state. A total of 2308 vacancies will be filled through this direct recruitment drive. This recruitment process will be conducted according to the “West Bengal Primary School Special Education Teachers Recruitment Rules, 2025”.

As per the notification released by the WBBPE, the application process has commenced today, i.e., from 6 PM on November 12, 2025. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online until 11:59 PM on November 25, 2025.

Application Process and District Preference

Interested candidates must visit the official WBBPE website and apply through the “Application for Special Education Teachers in Primary Schools, 2025” link. A crucial part of the application is mentioning the Preferences for districts. Although this is a state-level recruitment, districts will be allocated based on the candidate’s merit and their given preference during the counselling phase.

Eligibility and Age Limit

As per the “West Bengal Primary School Special Education Teachers Recruitment Rules, 2025,” candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be a citizen of India.
  2. Must possess the necessary educational and training qualifications as approved by NCTE/RCI.
  3. Must be TET qualified.
  4. Must have studied the language of the medium of the school as a first, second, or third language at the secondary or higher secondary level.

Age Limit:
As of January 1 of the application year, the candidate’s age must be between a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 40 years. Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC) will receive relaxation in the upper age limit as per government norms.
Additionally, a special provision has been made for Special Educators/IED Coordinators working under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM) and teachers in government-recognized special schools, who can apply up to the age of 55 years.

Selection Process and Merit List

The entire selection process will be based on a total of 100 marks. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Weightage for TET: 80 marks
  • Demonstration of Classroom Teaching: 10 marks
  • Interview (Viva-voce): 10 marks

After document verification of the applicants, eligible candidates will be called for classroom demonstration and interview. Finally, the Board will publish a State-wide Merit List. Based on this merit list and the district preferences provided by the candidates, district-wise panels will be prepared. The respective District Primary School Councils (DPSC) will then conduct counselling and issue appointment letters.
