WBSSC Releases Gazette for Clerk, Group D and Librarian Recruitment

WBSSC Clerk, Group D and Librarian Recruitment 2025: The wait is finally over. The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has published the gazette notification with new rules for the recruitment of non-teaching staff, i.e., Group C (Clerk), Group D, and Librarian in state schools. This notification, named “The West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection of Persons for Appointment to the Posts of Non-Teaching Staff) Rules, 2025,” was published on August 4, 2025. These new rules bring a significant opportunity for the job aspirants of the state. Let’s delve into the important details of this recruitment process.

Post Details & Educational Qualifications

According to the notification, recruitment will be for three main posts. Specific educational qualifications and age limits have been set for each post.

  • Librarian:
    • Educational Qualification: An applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a UGC-recognized university along with a degree in Library Science.
    • Age Limit: The age must be between 20 and 40 years as of January 1st of the year of advertisement.
  • Clerk:
    • Educational Qualification: An applicant must have passed the School Final/Madhyamik or its equivalent examination.
    • Age Limit: The age must be between 18 and 40 years.
  • Group D Staff:
    • Educational Qualification: Must have passed Class VIII from any school recognized or affiliated by a Board/Council or equivalent.
    • Age Limit: The age must be between 18 and 40 years.

Age Relaxation: For all posts, the upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates, and 8 years for Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates.

Selection Process & Marks Distribution

This year’s recruitment process will be completed through a written examination (OMR-based), academic score, experience, and interview. The marks distribution is different for each post.

Librarian (Total 100 Marks)

  • Written Examination (OMR): 75 marks.
  • Academic & Professional Qualification: 10 marks.
  • Similar Experience: 5 marks (one mark for each completed year).
  • Oral Interview: 10 marks.

Clerk (Total 100 Marks)

  • Written Examination (OMR): 60 marks.
  • Academic qualifications: 10 marks.
  • Similar experience: 5 marks.
  • Interview with computer typing and computer proficiency: 25 marks (Out of which, Oral Interview is 10 marks and Typing/Computer Proficiency is 15 marks).

Group D Staff (Total 50 Marks)

  • Written examination (OMR based): 40 marks.
  • Similar experience: 5 marks.
  • Oral Interview: 5 marks.

Key Points

  • Application Process: Applications for all posts must be made through online mode only.
  • Written Examination: The exam will be an OMR-based test with multiple-choice questions. Candidates can retain a duplicate copy of the OMR sheet after the examination.
  • Interview: The number of qualified candidates to be called for the interview shall not exceed two times the number of final vacancies. Appearing for the interview is mandatory.
  • Panel Validity: Each panel and waiting list will remain valid for one year from the date of the first counselling. The validity can be extended for a maximum period of 6 months with the prior approval of the State Government.
