The West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC) has officially released the notification for the 2nd State Level Selection Test (SLST) for Recruitment of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX-X (Secondary) and Classes XI-XII (Higher Secondary) for the year 2025. Indicative Vacancy Details (Subject to Change):
The WBSSC has released an indicative count of vacancies:
- Assistant Teacher (Classes IX-X): A total of approximately 23,212 indicative vacancies across various subjects and mediums.
- Assistant Teacher (Classes XI-XII): A total of approximately 12,514 indicative vacancies across various subjects and mediums.
Candidates are advised to check the official WBSSC vacancy list which is linked below for detailed subject-wise, medium-wise, and category-wise vacancy breakdowns. The final number of vacancies may increase or decrease.
Eligibility Criteria:
A. General Eligibility:
- Must be a citizen of India.
- Male candidates are not eligible for appointment in any Girls’ schools.
B. Age Limit (as on January 1, 2025):
- Minimum: 21 years
- Maximum: 40 years
- Relaxations:
- Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): 5 years
- Other Backward Classes (OBC): 3 years
- Physically Handicapped (PH): 8 years (as per State Govt. norms)
- Special age relaxation will be given to candidates as per the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order dated 03.04.2025.
- If a person falls under multiple relaxation categories, only the most beneficial one will apply.
- For SC/ST/OBC/PH categories, certificates issued by competent authorities of the Government of West Bengal on or before the last date of online application are valid. Candidates from other states in these categories will be treated as General candidates.
C. Educational Qualifications (as on or before the last date of online application):
- For Assistant Teacher (Classes IX-X):
- Graduate / Post Graduate from a recognized University with at least 50% marks in either Graduation or Post Graduation (or its equivalent) AND Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution.
- OR 4-year degree of B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed from any NCTE recognized institution.
- A candidate applying for a subject must have passed at least the graduation level examination with a minimum of 300 full marks in the relevant or concerned subject, or a postgraduate examination in the concerned or relevant subject.
- For Assistant Teacher (Classes XI-XII):
- Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognized University AND Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from an NCTE recognized institution.
- OR Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognized University AND B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed from any NCTE recognized institution.
- A candidate applying for a subject must have passed at least the Post-Graduation level examination in the relevant or concerned subject.
- Relaxation in Marks: A 5% relaxation in educational qualification marks will be allowed for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PH).
- Medium of Instruction Proficiency: Candidates must have passed the specified language (Bengali, English, Hindi, Nepali, Oriya, Santhali, Telugu, or Urdu as applicable for the medium of instruction) as a first, second, or third language at the Secondary/Higher Secondary/Graduation/Post Graduation level.

- Assistant Teacher (IX-X): General & OBC – Rs. 500/-; SC/ST/PH – Rs. 200/-

- Fill the form carefully. No rectification will be allowed after final online submission.

C. OMR Based Written Test Details:
- Candidates will retain a duplicate copy of their OMR Sheet.
- Preliminary model answer keys will be published online, and objections (supported by authentic academic publications) can be submitted within 5 days.
- A subject-wise Expert Committee will review objections, and their decision is final.
- The final model answer key will be uploaded before OMR evaluation.
- Candidates may be allowed to view an image of their own OMR sheet online on payment of a fee.
- Question papers will be set in English and Bengali. Language papers will be in the respective language. The Sanskrit paper will be in Bengali.
Note on Upper Primary Selection (as per “Rules, 2025” – Not for this current SLST AT 2025):
The “Rules, 2025” also outline the selection process for Assistant Teachers for Upper Primary Level (except Work Education and Physical Education). This involves: Academic Score (10 marks), TET Weightage (40 marks), Written Exam (OMR – 25 marks), Oral Interview (15 marks), Lecture Demonstration (5 marks), and Prior Teaching Experience (5 marks). This is for informational purposes, as the current advertisement (2nd SLST AT 2025) is only for Classes IX-X and XI-XII.
Syllabus:

Panel Preparation and Validity:
- An Interview List will be prepared category-wise based on preliminary merit score (written test and/or academic score) in a 1.6:1 ratio of final vacancies.

- Final Panels (equal to vacancies) and Waiting Lists will be published category-wise.
- Candidates will be informed of their individual scores and cut-off marks.
- The Panel and Waiting List will be valid for 1 year from the date of the first counselling, extendable by a maximum of 6 months with State Government approval.
