West Bengal College Admission: The anxiety among students and guardians over the delay in starting the undergraduate admission process in state colleges, even a month after the declaration of higher secondary results, is about to end. According to the recent announcement by State Education Minister Bratya Basu, if everything goes as planned, the Centralised Online Admission Portal will be launched before June 19th.

New Admission Rule: Centralised Online Portal

Starting this year, a single Centralised Online Admission Portal is being introduced for admissions to all government and government-aided colleges in the state. As a result, students will no longer need to fill out separate forms for different colleges as before. They can choose multiple colleges of their preference by applying through a single form. This new system is expected to reduce the hassle for students and make the entire admission process more transparent and integrated.

Why the Delay?

There was significant uncertainty about when college admissions would begin this year. It is understood that the process was delayed primarily due to some legal complexities concerning OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservation. However, the Education Minister has stated in the Assembly that all issues have been resolved, and the preparations to launch the portal are in their final stages. He also assured that since the admission process started around June 19th last year as well, there isn’t a significant delay this year.

Documents Required for Application

Students applying for college admission this year are advised to keep some essential documents ready in advance. This will allow them to apply as soon as the portal is launched. A list of the required documents is provided below:

  • Higher Secondary Marksheet: The most crucial document.
  • Proof of Date of Birth: Madhyamik Admit Card or Birth Certificate.
  • Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card or Voter Card.
  • Caste Certificate: For SC, ST, or OBC candidates.
  • Passport-sized Photograph: A recent color photo.
  • Digital Signature: Sign on a white paper and keep a scanned copy.
  • Mobile Number & Email ID: All admission-related information will be sent here.

What Will the Application Process Be Like?

Once the central portal is launched, students will need to follow these steps:

  1. Registration: First, register on the portal using your name, mobile number, and email ID.
  2. Form Fill-up: Next, fill out the complete application form with your educational qualifications, personal details, etc.
  3. College & Subject Choice: Choose your preferred colleges and subjects based on your marks.
  4. Document Upload: Scan and upload all the necessary documents.
  5. Application Fee Payment: The process will be complete after paying the application fee online.

After the application process is over, a merit list will be published, and students will be admitted to colleges based on that list.
