DA Case Update: State Government Employees’ DA Case Deepens, Confederation to File Contempt of Court Petition

DA Case Update: The wait for Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees is getting longer. With no positive steps from the state government despite the Supreme Court’s order, frustration is mounting among employee organizations. This sentiment was echoed in the recent statement by Malay Mukhopadhyay, the General Secretary of the Confederation of State Government Employees. According to him, the state government is disrespecting the court, and they are prepared to take legal action against it.
Current Situation
According to the Supreme Court’s verdict, the state government is supposed to clear the DA dues by June 27, 2025. However, as the deadline approaches, there is no sign of any action from the government. This inaction has naturally left the state government employees disappointed and angry. Malay Mukhopadhyay has stated that they will not sit silently in protest of this inaction.
Warning of Legal Action
The employee organization has announced that they have already started preparations to send a legal notice. This notice will be sent to the state’s Chief Secretary, Manoj Pan, and the Finance Secretary, Prabhat Kumar Mishra. The notice will serve as a reminder to the state government to comply with the Supreme Court’s order.
Contempt of Court Case
If the state government fails to take any action regarding the payment of DA even after receiving this legal notice, the employee organizations will file a contempt of court case directly in the Supreme Court. In the words of Malay Mukhopadhyay, “We will fight till the end. The government will be forced to pay the DA.” It has been indicated that the Chief Minister may also be implicated in this case.
Anger Among Employees
The government’s delay in the DA case is causing growing anger among the employees. They believe that DA is their rightful claim, not a matter of charity. This case has been going on for years, and each time the state has defied the court’s orders. In this situation, most employees support the strict measures being taken by the employee organizations.
The Path Forward
It remains to be seen what steps the state government will take after receiving the legal notice. Will they end this long-standing dispute by clearing the DA, or will they head for another legal battle? It is clear that the employee organizations are firm in their demands. Therefore, millions of state government employees are eagerly watching to see which direction the DA case will turn in the coming days.
