Big News for State Government Employees Will 7th Pay Commission and DA Arrears be Received Before End of 2025
7th Pay Commission: With only 5 days left for the year 2025 to end, worry lines are visible on the foreheads of West Bengal government employees. Will the state government employees receive any good news regarding their long-pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and the 7th Pay Commission before the new year arrives? This question is currently circulating within administrative circles. Resentment is growing among employees as the government has not yet made any significant announcement regarding the formation of the 7th Pay Commission.
Ultimatum by Unity Forum
Various organizations of state government employees have been vocal about their demands for a long time. Recently, a government employees’ organization named ‘Unity Forum’ has set a strict deadline for the state government. Their clear demand is that the state government must constitute the 7th Pay Commission by December 31st.
The organization has warned that if the government does not take this step within the specified time, they will take the legal route. They have even threatened to file a case in the High Court if necessary. It remains to be seen how much pressure this ultimatum, given at the end of the year, can create on the government.
‘Shikshanuragi Oikya Mancha’ Appeals to the Chief Minister
Alongside the Unity Forum, an organization of teachers and employees named ‘Shikshanuragi Oikya Mancha’ has directly sought the intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A letter signed by the organization’s General Secretary, Kinkar Adhikari, was recently sent to the Chief Minister’s office. This letter primarily highlighted two main demands:
- Immediate Formation of 7th Pay Commission: In the past, it has been observed that a new commission is formed in the state shortly after the formation of a new pay commission at the Centre. Following that tradition, a request has been made to form the 7th Pay Commission as soon as possible.
- Payment of DA Arrears: A demand has been made to clear all pending Dearness Allowance arrears from January 2026 as per the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI).
The organization has expressed hope that the state government will judge the matter with a humanitarian perspective. However, even though some time has passed since the letter was sent, no positive response or update has been received from the government side yet.
Centre vs State: The Pay Commission Gap
The letter mentioned a crucial point which is one of the main reasons for the employees’ grievance. Currently, West Bengal government employees are receiving salaries under the 6th Pay Commission. On the other hand, there is a strong possibility that the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented for Central government employees in 2026.
While Central employees are at the doorstep of the 8th Commission, state employees are still counting days for the 7th Commission. This huge gap has further increased the frustration of the employees. Whether the state government takes any important decision in response to this letter sent to the Chief Minister at the end of the year, or if the employees’ wait will be prolonged further, will become clear in the next few days.
