Shramashree Scheme: The Government of West Bengal has taken a groundbreaking step to provide financial security and social stability to the state’s migrant workers. The main objective of this new scheme, named ‘Shramashree’, is to support all those workers who have been forced to return from other states. This scheme will not only provide immediate financial assistance to the workers but will also ensure their long-term employment and social security. Main Objective of the Shramashree Scheme

The primary goal of this scheme is to help migrant workers cover their initial expenses after returning to West Bengal and to assist them in finding new work within the state. Often, workers face financial crisis upon returning from other states, making it difficult to support their families. Through this scheme, the government will provide direct financial assistance to these workers, enabling them to re-establish themselves in the state.

Who is Eligible for this Scheme?

To avail the benefits of this scheme, the applicant must meet certain specific eligibility criteria. They are:

• The applicant must be registered under the ‘West Bengal Migrant Workers Welfare Scheme, 2023’.
• Only those workers who have returned to West Bengal from other states are eligible to apply for this scheme.
• The applicant worker or their parents’ Voter ID card or Aadhaar card must be from West Bengal, proving their permanent residency in the state.

Financial Benefits of the Scheme

Under the Shramashree scheme, selected workers will receive the following financial assistance:

• One-time Assistance: Each worker will be given a one-time payment of ₹5,000 to cover travel expenses for returning from another state.
• Monthly Allowance: Workers will receive a monthly allowance of ₹5,000 until they find new employment in the state. This allowance will be provided for a maximum of one year, or until the government arranges employment for them.

Application Process

For the convenience of the workers, the government has provided both online and offline application methods.

• Online Application: Workers can apply online directly by visiting the website www.karmasathips.wblabour.gov.in. The government also plans to launch a separate web portal for this scheme in the future.
• Offline Application: For workers who may have difficulty applying online, the state government will organize special camps at various locations across the state. Application forms can also be submitted offline at these camps.

Other Important Benefits

In addition to financial aid, several other important benefits have been arranged for workers under the Shramashree scheme:

• Training and Employment: Workers will be provided training in various fields based on their skills through the ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ scheme. Additionally, under the ‘Udyaman Swanirbhar Karmasansthan Prakalpa’, financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 for self-reliance and loan facilities through various government corporations will be available.
• Education and Health: Arrangements will be made for the admission of migrant workers’ children into schools and for scholarships. Furthermore, based on eligibility, health and other social security scheme benefits for the workers’ family members will also be ensured.
