Krishak Bandhu: Good News for Farmers! WB Govt Releases Rs 10000 Under Krishak Bandhu Scheme

Krishak Bandhu: The West Bengal government has once again brought good news for the state’s farmers. As announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the distribution of financial assistance under the Krishak Bandhu scheme for the Kharif season has begun. This move has brought smiles to the faces of millions of farmers in the state, especially during these difficult times when the cost of cultivation is continuously rising. This scheme not only provides financial security to the farmers but also boosts their confidence, which is crucial for the improvement of the state’s agricultural system.

Krishak Bandhu (New) Scheme: At a Glance

The Krishak Bandhu scheme is a landmark initiative by the West Bengal government aimed at providing financial support to the state’s farmers. Here are some key aspects of the scheme:

  • Amount of Financial Assistance: Under this scheme, eligible farmers and sharecroppers are provided with Rs 10,000 per acre annually in two equal installments. This amount is given separately for the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
  • Minimum Grant: Those with less than one acre of land need not be disappointed. The government ensures a minimum financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per year for them on a pro-rata basis.
  • Direct Bank Transfer: The biggest advantage of this scheme is that all grants are deposited directly into the farmers’ bank accounts (Direct Bank Transfer – DBT). This eliminates the possibility of any intermediary intervention and maintains transparency.
  • Current Year’s Statistics: This year, about 1.09 crore farmers are benefiting from this scheme for the Kharif season. The government is sending a total of Rs 2,930 crore directly to their accounts. An equal amount will be allocated for the Rabi season as well.

Long-term Impact of the Scheme

Since its launch in 2019, the Krishak Bandhu scheme has brought a positive change in the state’s agricultural sector. So far, a total of Rs 24,086 crore has been handed over to the state’s farmers through this scheme. This has not only helped them meet their cultivation costs but has also been instrumental in improving their standard of living.

Social Security for Farmer Families

The Krishak Bandhu scheme is not just limited to financial aid; it also provides social security to the farmers’ families.

  • Death Benefit: If a registered farmer under the scheme dies between the ages of 18 and 60, the state government provides a one-time financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to their family.
  • Number of Beneficiary Families: So far, about 1.46 lakh farmer families have benefited from this assistance component, and a total of Rs 2,920 crore has been provided to them.

This scheme is undoubtedly a farmer-friendly initiative of the West Bengal government, which is playing a crucial role in strengthening the state’s agricultural system and securing the future of the farmers.
