Fines for Excess Luggage
If a passenger travels with more luggage than the prescribed limit and does not book it in advance, they will have to pay a fine. This fine can be up to six times the normal fare. For example, if a passenger in sleeper class travels with 60 kg of luggage instead of 40 kg, they will be fined for the extra 20 kg. This fine will not only be levied on the excess weight, but punitive action may also be taken for breaking the rule.
Rules for Large-Sized Luggage
It is not just about the weight; Indian Railways also has some rules regarding the size of the luggage. Generally, trunks or suitcases larger than 100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm are not allowed inside the compartment. Such large-sized luggage must be booked in the luggage van. In the case of AC 3-Tier and AC Chair Car, the size of the luggage should not exceed 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm.
