No More Unlimited Balance Checks! 4 New UPI Rules That Will Change Your Life

New UPI Rules: A revolutionary change is coming to India’s digital transaction system. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is going to introduce some new rules for using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) which will be effective from August 1, 2025. The main objective of these new rules is to make the UPI system faster, more secure, and more reliable. Let’s know the details about these new rules.
Why these new rules?
In recent times, the number of UPI users has increased tremendously, which has increased the pressure on the UPI server and often technical problems are being seen. To solve this problem and to provide better service to the users, NPCI has decided to introduce these new regulations. This will reduce the unnecessary pressure on the system and make the transactions smoother.
Key aspects of the new rules:
- Limit on Balance Check: From now on, users will be able to check their account balance a maximum of 50 times a day through a UPI app. This is an important change for those who check their balance frequently. However, after every successful transaction, users will automatically receive a notification about their updated account balance, which will help reduce the number of unnecessary balance checks.
- Specific Time for Auto-Pay Transactions: A specific time limit has been set for all users who use subscription-based auto-debit payments (eg – SIP, Netflix, or other bill payments). These types of transactions will now be processed only during non-peak hours (before 10 am, between 1 pm to 5 pm and after 9:30 pm). This will reduce the pressure on the server during peak hours.
- Limitation on Checking Transaction Status: If a user’s payment is stuck or showing pending, they will now be able to check the status of that transaction a maximum of three times. A minimum gap of 90 seconds must be maintained between each check. This will reduce the tendency to ping the system repeatedly, which will improve the server’s performance.
- Limit on Viewing Linked Account Information: Users can check which bank accounts are linked to their mobile number a maximum of 25 times a day. This rule is also a step to reduce the unnecessary pressure on the system.
Some suggestions for users:
- Stay Aware: Be aware of the new rules and change your UPI usage habits accordingly.
- Avoid Unnecessary Checks: Since you will get an update of the balance after every successful transaction, refrain from checking the balance unnecessarily.
- Remember the Auto-Pay Transaction Time: If you have any important auto-pay payments, be aware of its schedule so that there is no problem.
- Be Patient: If a transaction gets stuck, wait for a while instead of checking the status repeatedly.
It is hoped that these new regulations will give a new direction to the Indian digital payment system. Although users may face some temporary difficulties, in the long run it will ensure a secure and improved UPI service.
