WBBSE Holiday List: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has officially released the ‘Model Holiday List 2026’ for secondary schools across the state. The notification was issued on December 9, 2025, by the Deputy Secretary (Academic). This list is applicable to all recognized Government, Government-sponsored, and Government-aided schools under the WBBSE.
According to the notification, the total number of holidays for the academic year 2026 has been fixed at 65 days. This schedule includes details for Summer Vacation, Puja Vacation, and various festivals. For the convenience of teachers, staff, and students, the complete date-wise holiday list is provided below.

The simplified holiday list is sorted by date below. Please note that Sundays are generally excluded from the count as they are regular weekly holidays.
Phase 1: January – April
- January 1 (Thursday): English New Year.
- January 12 (Monday): Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.
- January 22 (Thursday): Day before Saraswati Puja.
- January 23 (Friday): Saraswati Puja, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti (To be observed in school, no classes).
- January 26 (Monday): Republic Day (To be observed in school, no classes).
- February 4 (Wednesday): Shab-e-Barat.
- February 14 (Saturday): Birth Anniversary of Thakur Panchanan Barma.
- (February 15 – Sunday): Shivaratri.
- March 3 (Tuesday): Dol Yatra.
- March 4 (Wednesday): Holi (Day after Dol Yatra).
- March 17 (Tuesday): Birth Anniversary of Shri Shri Harichand Thakur.
- March 20 (Friday): Day before Eid-Ul-Fitr.
- March 21 (Saturday): Eid-Ul-Fitr.
- March 26 (Thursday): Ram Navami.
- March 31 (Tuesday): Mahavir Jayanti.
- April 3 (Friday): Good Friday.
- April 14 (Tuesday): Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
- April 15 (Wednesday): Bengali New Year.
Phase 2: May – August (Including Summer Vacation)
- May 1 (Friday): May Day, Buddha Purnima, and Pandit Raghunath Murmu’s Birthday.
- May 9 (Saturday): Rabindra Jayanti.
- May 11 – May 16 (Monday – Saturday): Summer Vacation (6 Days).
- May 26 (Tuesday): Day before Eid-Uz-Zoha (Bakrid).
- May 27 (Wednesday): Eid-Uz-Zoha (Bakrid).
- June 26 (Friday): Muharram.
- July 16 (Thursday): Rathayatra.
- August 15 (Saturday): Independence Day (To be observed in school, no classes).
- August 26 (Wednesday): Fateha-Dwaz-Daham.
- August 28 (Friday): Rakhi Bandhan.
Phase 3: September – December (Including Puja Vacation)
- September 4 (Friday): Janmashtami.
- September 17 (Thursday): Vishwakarma Puja.
- October 2 (Friday): Gandhi Jayanti.
- October 10 (Saturday): Mahalaya.
- October 15 – November 12 (Thursday – Thursday): Puja Vacation (From Maha Chaturthi to the day after Bhatridwitiya – 25 Days excluding Sundays).
- November 15 (Sunday): Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda & Chhat Puja.
- November 16 (Monday): Chhat Puja (Additional Day).
- November 24 (Tuesday): Guru Nanak’s Birthday & Parshwanath’s Rathayatra.
- December 25 (Friday): Christmas.
Important Notes & Sectional Holidays
- Headmaster’s Discretion: 1 day is reserved as a discretionary holiday by the Head of the Institution.
- Sectional Holidays:
- February 1 (Sunday): Birthday of Guru Ravidas (for followers) & Birth Anniversary of Bir Chilarai (for North Bengal districts).
- April 4 (Saturday): Easter Saturday (for the Christian community).
- June 30 (Tuesday): Hul Diwas (for the Santhal community).
- Karam Puja: To be observed on the day declared by the State Government.
- For Darjeeling & Kalimpong Districts Only: July 13 (Monday) will be a holiday for the Birthday of Poet Bhanu Bhakta.
The Board has strictly instructed that attendance is mandatory for all teachers, staff, and students on observation days including January 23, January 26, August 15, September 5 (Teachers’ Day), and September 26 (Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s Birthday). Regular classes will remain suspended on these days, but the occasions must be observed in the school.
