WBPSC Miscellaneous Result: Controversial Candidate Disqualified, Commission Issues Notice

WBPSC Miscellaneous Result: The intense controversy surrounding the West Bengal Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Miscellaneous examination results has finally come to an end. The issue, which began with the inclusion of a candidate named Sayan Banerjee in the ST quota, has been decisively resolved by the Commission. By issuing a new notification, the candidature of the said examinee has been cancelled. Let’s delve into the details of the entire incident and the PSC’s latest action.
How Did the Controversy Begin?
A few days ago, the results of the PSC Miscellaneous Preliminary Examination were published. The merit list showed that a candidate named Sayan Banerjee had qualified under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. However, the surname ‘Banerjee’ is not typically associated with the ST community. As soon as this came to light, it sparked massive criticism on social media. Many alleged that the candidate had used false information to take advantage of the reserved quota. The allegations pointed out that he had qualified with a much lower cut-off score (117 for ST) compared to the General category cut-off (145).
PSC’s Initial Response
Initially, in response to the controversy, PSC Chairperson Mahua Bandyopadhyay had stated that the information provided by candidates is not verified at the preliminary stage. All documents are scrutinized only after the main examination and before the interview. She had assured that if any discrepancy was found, appropriate action would be taken. Despite this statement, confusion and resentment continued to grow among the job aspirants.
PSC’s Final Action: Candidature Cancelled
Facing pressure from social media and job aspirants, the West Bengal Public Service Commission finally took strict action. On 18th July 2025, the Commission issued a new notification (No. 131 P.S.C. / Con.) stating that the candidature of Sayan Banerjee (Roll No: 1800575) has been cancelled.
The notification clearly states:
“And whereas on hearing by calling him through notice and scrutiny of all the original testimonials of the said Sayan Banerjee, it appears that the incumbent has made false statement regarding his category and necessary qualification.”
Through this notice, the Commission has confirmed that Sayan Banerjee does not belong to the ST category and his candidature was cancelled due to the submission of false information.
The Impact of this Decision
This swift and decisive action by the PSC has helped restore faith in the Commission among job aspirants. Those who were worried about losing a fair opportunity can now breathe a sigh of relief. This incident proves that submitting false or incorrect information during the application process will eventually be caught, and the consequences will be severe.
This event also serves as a strong warning for all future applicants. It is crucial to fill out the application form with utmost care, ensuring all information, especially regarding one’s category, is accurate. A small mistake can lead to significant problems and jeopardize an entire career.
