Voter Card Correction Is Now Easier, Know The Process Using Aadhaar OTP

Voter Card Correction: After the publication of the draft voter list, many citizens often notice errors in their identity cards. Whether it’s a misspelled name, an incorrect date of birth, or a wrong address, these discrepancies used to require standing in long queues at local government offices. However, in 2025, the Election Commission of India has streamlined this process, making it highly technology-driven and accessible. You can now correct your Voter ID card details from the comfort of your home, completely free of charge. The introduction of the Aadhaar OTP-based verification process has made the system faster and more transparent than ever before.

In this guide, we will walk you through the complete step-by-step process of correcting errors in your Voter ID online and the documents required for the same.

Login Process on the Voter Service Portal

To initiate the correction process, you must first visit the official website of the Election Commission, voters.eci.gov.in.

  • Click on the ‘Login’ option located at the top right corner of the website.
  • If you already have an account, log in using your registered mobile number and password.
  • New users can easily create an account by clicking on ‘Sign Up’ and providing their mobile number and email ID.
  • Once logged in, you will see a list of various services on the dashboard.

Selecting Form 8 and Correction Rules

To change any details on the Voter Card, one must fill out the specific ‘Form 8’.

  1. Select the ‘Form 8’ (Correction of Entries) option from the portal dashboard.
  2. The system will ask if the application is for yourself or someone else. Select ‘Self’ for your own card or ‘Other Elector’ for a family member, then enter the EPIC number and submit.
  3. After submission, four options will appear on the screen. For error correction, you must choose the second option: ‘Correction of Entries in Existing Electoral Roll’.
  4. Please note that you can correct a maximum of four entries or details in a single form.

What Details Can Be Changed?

Through the online portal, you can update the following information:

  • Name and Gender
  • Date of Birth
  • Relative’s Name and Type of Relation
  • Address
  • Mobile Number and Photo

Special Note for Married Women: If a newly married woman wants to update her address to her husband’s house and add her husband’s name, the process is slightly different. First, you must use the ‘Shifting of Residence’ option to change the address. Once the address is updated, you need to fill out Form 8 a second time to include the husband’s name. Attempting to do both at once may lead to the rejection of the application.

Uploading Supporting Documents

The application will not be accepted without valid proof. The file size of the documents must be under 2 MB, and the format should be either JPG or PDF.

  • Proof for Name Correction: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, or School Certificate.
  • Proof for Date of Birth: Birth Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or PAN Card.
  • Proof of Relationship: Marriage Registration Certificate (for married women).
  • Photo and Mobile Number: No additional supporting documents are required to change these two details.

Aadhaar e-Sign and Final Submission

After filling in all the fields correctly and uploading the necessary documents, click on the ‘Preview’ option to verify all the information. If everything is correct, click on the ‘e-Sign and Submit’ button.
Here, you will need to enter your Aadhaar number. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. Entering this OTP will successfully submit your application.

Upon submission, you will receive a Reference Number. Keep this number safe. You can later use this number in the ‘Track Application Status’ section of the portal to check the progress of your application. Once the BLO verification is complete, your corrected Voter ID card will be generated.
