WBSSC Notice: West Bengal School Service Commission’s New Notice, Important Addendum on OBC Reservation

WBSSC Notice: The West Bengal Central School Service Commission issued an important addendum on July 4, 2025. This notice has been issued as additional information to the category-related notice published on June 24, 2025, and is extremely significant for the 2nd SLST, 2025 applicants, especially those belonging to the OBC category.
High Court’s Directive and the New Addendum
The Commission has stated that this new addendum has been published based on an order from the Calcutta High Court dated June 26, 2025. According to this order, the following has been included in the application process for the 2nd SLST, 2025:
- Who can apply: From now on, individuals from the “original OBC category” will also be included in the “Receipt of Applications” process on the WBSSC application portal.
- Definition of OBC Category: The notice clarifies that the original OBC category refers to those candidates who were included in the existing classes of OBCs prior to 2010, as directed by the court’s judgment dated May 22, 2024.
Supreme Court Case and Conditions
Along with this notice, the Commission has mentioned two important points that applicants must keep in mind:
- Ongoing Case: The original judgment of the Calcutta High Court dated May 22, 2024, has been challenged in the Supreme Court of India, and the case (SLP Nos. 17751 to 17755 of 2024, State of West Bengal -vs- Amal Chandra Das) is currently pending adjudication.
- Final Decision on Applications: As reiterated in the earlier notice, any final decision on any application will be subject to further orders which may be passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in all the pending SLPs and subject to the outcome of other pending legal proceedings.
What Does This Mean for Applicants?
The main takeaway from this notice is that OBC candidates from the pre-2010 category can now apply for the 2nd SLST, 2025. However, their application and final appointment will be entirely dependent on the Supreme Court’s verdict. Applicants are advised to regularly follow the official notifications from the Commission and complete the application process after carefully understanding all the terms and conditions.
