Morning School in West Bengal: Primary schools across various districts in West Bengal are adapting their schedules in response to an intense heatwave. Following the reopening of schools on June 2, 2025, after the summer break, some districts have already decided to conduct classes during morning hours, while others await approval from the primary education board for similar changes.
The District Primary School Council (DPSC) in Bankura has taken proactive steps, instructing all primary and junior basic schools within the district to operate on a morning schedule effective from June 4, 2025, until further notice. This measure is aimed at protecting students from the escalating daytime temperatures.
Similarly, the DPSC in Purba Midnapore has sought permission from the West Bengal Board of Primary Education to shift to a morning schedule. The region is currently experiencing temperatures between 38-39 degrees Celsius, with forecasts indicating a further rise. In light of this, the East Midnapore DPSC has requested approval for morning school sessions for at least four weeks, or until the heatwave conditions abate.
These decisions underscore the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding the health of students and teachers while ensuring the continuity of education. The revised timings are expected to offer some respite from the harsh weather.
