Yubasathi Payment: Many applicants for the state government’s Yubasathi scheme are receiving text messages on their mobile phones, but a quick check of their bank accounts reveals a zero balance. Naturally, this situation is creating widespread confusion. A common misconception among the youth is that receiving an SMS automatically guarantees the transfer of funds. However, the reality is entirely different, as various technical glitches and human errors are responsible for these payment failures.

What Causes the Transactions to Fail?

For applicants who have received a message from the treasury but haven’t received the money and have been asked to contact the BDO office, two main issues are primarily at fault:

Firstly, internal bank issues: Often, beneficiaries do not have their KYC (Know Your Customer) updated in their bank accounts. Sometimes, there are specific limitations or transaction caps set on the account. If such restrictions exist, the government grant cannot be credited successfully.

Secondly, human error during data entry: Even if you submit an absolutely flawless application online, problems can still arise. Once the state government verifies the information and forwards it to the treasury, the data is manually typed in by the staff. During this manual entry, there is a high risk of mistyping an account number. Consequently, when the funds are dispatched, the account holder’s name does not match the entered account number, causing the transaction to reverse and the payment to fail.

Why Receiving an SMS Doesn’t Guarantee Payment

Applicants generally receive two types of notifications. After submitting the form, a standard message in Bengali, accompanied by a video clip, is sent to the registered mobile number and WhatsApp. This is merely an acknowledgment of submission. Even if someone submits a form with completely incorrect or demo data, this initial message will still be delivered. Therefore, it does not confirm successful verification.

On the other hand, the second message dispatched from the treasury includes the last four digits of your bank account. However, matching just the last four digits does not mean the entire account number is correct. Middle digits are often mistyped during manual entry, which is a major reason why these transactions are bouncing.

What Should You Do If the Money Isn’t Credited?

If you have received the notifications but no money has been deposited, take these immediate steps:

  • Verify account activity: To check if your bank account is fully functional, try transferring a nominal amount (like Rs. 5 or Rs. 10) to your own account using UPI platforms like PhonePe or Google Pay. If the transfer is successful, it confirms that there are no issues from the bank’s side.
  • Contact the relevant authorities: If the bank account is working perfectly but the grant still hasn’t arrived, it indicates a significant data entry error at the block or treasury level. In such a scenario, do not delay. Visit your local Block or BDO (Block Development Officer) office immediately, report the issue directly, and get your details rectified.
