An estimate built from the ROPA 2019 rules and the rates shown. Your pay slip in HRMS is the final word: special pay, recoveries and income tax differ from person to person.

West Bengal state government employees are paid under the West Bengal Services (Revision of Pay and Allowance) Rules, 2019 (ROPA 2019). Your salary is built from your basic pay in the pay matrix, dearness allowance on that basic pay, house rent allowance and a few fixed allowances. The deductions that bring it down to take-home pay are your GPF subscription, Group Insurance (GIS), professional tax and any income tax your DDO deducts.

Dearness allowance rose from 18% to 38% with effect from 01.10.2026 under Finance Department Memo No. 2834-F(P2) dated 04.08.2026, so the October 2026 salary is the first one paid at the new rate. The calculator starts at 38%; change it to 18% to see your pay before the rise.

Professional tax: current and proposed schedule

Professional tax is charged on monthly salary. The schedule in force charges nothing up to ₹10,000 and at most ₹200 a month. On 18.08.2026 the Finance Department published a draft schedule in Notification No. 1407-F.T. that would exempt salaries up to ₹20,000 and charge ₹100, ₹140, ₹170 or ₹208 above that. It was issued for objections and is not yet in force, so the calculator uses the current rates unless you switch to the proposed ones.

📌 How to Use This Calculator

1
Enter your basic pay from the ROPA 2019 pay matrix, as shown on your pay slip.
2
Check the DA rate. It is set to 38%, the rate from 01.10.2026; enter 18 to see pay for earlier months.
3
Choose your house rent allowance: 12% of basic, a fixed amount, or none if you live in government quarters.
4
Choose medical allowance, and NPA if you are a medical officer. Add any other allowance you draw.
5
Check the deductions. GPF starts at the 6% minimum and GIS at Group B; change either to match your pay slip, and add income tax or other recoveries.
6
Read your take-home pay, gross pay and the itemised pay slip in the result panel.

💡 How the Calculation Works

Gross pay is basic pay + NPA + DA + HRA + medical allowance + other allowances. DA is worked out on basic pay plus NPA. HRA is 12% of basic pay and never more than ₹12,000 a month.

Take-home pay is gross pay less GPF subscription, GIS, professional tax, income tax and any other recovery. Professional tax is found from the gross monthly salary using the schedule you choose.

📐 Calculation Formula

Gross = Basic + NPA + DA + HRA + MA + Other · DA = (Basic + NPA) × DA% ÷ 100 · Take-home = Gross − (GPF + GIS + P.Tax + TDS + Other deductions)

📝 Calculation Example

An employee in Level 11 draws basic pay of ₹35,400, with HRA at 12% and a medical allowance of ₹500, in GIS Group B.

Earnings: basic ₹35,400 + DA at 38% ₹13,452 + HRA ₹4,248 + MA ₹500 = gross pay of ₹53,600.

Deductions: GPF at the 6% minimum ₹2,124 + GIS ₹40 + professional tax ₹200 = ₹2,364.

Take-home pay: ₹53,600 − ₹2,364 = ₹51,236 a month, before any income tax.

⚠️ Important Notes & Rules

DA is 38% from 01.10.2026 under Finance Department Memo No. 2834-F(P2) dated 04.08.2026. The September 2026 salary and earlier months were paid at 18%.

The proposed professional tax schedule in Notification No. 1407-F.T. dated 18.08.2026 was published for objections and is not in force until it is finally notified.

WBHS members do not draw the ₹500 medical allowance. HRA is not paid while you occupy government accommodation.

The result is an estimate. Special pay, recoveries, income tax and arrears differ from person to person; your HRMS pay slip is the final figure.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Dearness allowance is 38% of basic pay from 01.10.2026, under Finance Department Memo No. 2834-F(P2) dated 04.08.2026. It was 18% from 01.04.2025 until then.

Under ROPA 2019, house rent allowance is 12% of basic pay, subject to a maximum of ₹12,000 a month. It is not paid to employees who occupy government accommodation.

No. DA is a percentage of basic pay, and of NPA for medical officers who draw it. HRA, medical allowance and other allowances do not attract DA.

Under the schedule in force, salaries up to ₹10,000 a month pay nothing, and the tax rises in steps to ₹200 a month above ₹40,000. A proposed schedule in Notification No. 1407-F.T. (18.08.2026) would exempt salaries up to ₹20,000 and charge up to ₹208; it is not yet in force.

Under the Group Insurance-cum-Savings Scheme, 1987, the monthly subscription is ₹80 for Group A, ₹40 for Group B, ₹20 for Group C and ₹10 for Group D. After ROPA 2019 the group follows your pay level: Level 12 and above is A, 7 to 11 is B, 3 to 6 is C and 1 to 2 is D.

No. The ₹500 monthly medical allowance is for employees who are not enrolled in the West Bengal Health Scheme. Choose "None" for medical allowance if you are a WBHS member.
