TET Mandatory: The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has been made mandatory for all in-service teachers. Following a recent Supreme Court verdict, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education has re-issued a notice to collect TET-related information from all in-service teachers in the state. This notice has been issued by the Murshidabad District Primary School Council and forwarded to all School Sub-Inspectors of the district.

Key Contents of the Notice

Through this notice, all working teachers have been instructed to fill in their TET qualification details in a prescribed Excel format and submit it within three days. This action has been taken based on the judgment of the Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025 in the case of Anjuman Ishati Taleem Trust vs. The State of Maharashtra.

Why is this Data Being Collected?

According to the Supreme Court’s directive, passing the TET is mandatory for all teachers. To implement this order, the state government and the education department want to ascertain the TET qualification status of the teachers. Previously, various DPSCs (District Primary School Councils) had issued similar notices for data collection, but they were later withdrawn. However, this data collection process has been re-initiated in light of the board’s notice dated September 22, 2025.

What Do Teachers Need to Do?

  • All in-service teachers must fill in their TET-related information on a specific Excel sheet.
  • This Excel sheet must be submitted to the concerned authorities within three days.
  • The state government will take further action based on this information.

This step is expected to bring transparency to the state’s education system and help improve the quality of education. All teachers are requested to comply with this directive.
