WB GPF Update: For state government employees, the General Provident Fund (GPF) serves as a vital financial safety net for the future. Every month, a specific portion of their salary is systematically deducted for this fund. However, a recent lack of communication regarding GPF account updates has sparked significant anxiety and confusion among West Bengal state government employees. Even though the monthly deductions are happening smoothly, employees have no way of knowing whether the money is actually being credited to their respective fund accounts.

Prolonged Halt in SMS Services and Employee Anxiety

Under the previous system, employees comfortably received SMS updates regarding their GPF deposits every three months on their registered mobile numbers. This allowed them to keep track of their accumulated savings effortlessly. Unfortunately, this regular communication has been completely stalled for several months. According to the available information, the last such update was delivered in May 2025. The absence of any subsequent messages has naturally left countless hardworking government professionals deeply worried about the status of their hard-earned money.

Clarification from the A.G. Bengal Office

Seeking to resolve this widespread concern, an inquiry was made with the Accountant General (A.G.) Bengal office located in Kolkata. The GPF section clearly outlined the underlying reasons for this ongoing disruption. They cited two major operational hurdles:

  • Manpower Shortage: The department is currently operating with a limited workforce, which has understandably slowed down routine administrative tasks.
  • Technological Upgrades: A massive infrastructure upgrade is in progress. The office is actively removing outdated computer systems and installing brand-new, modern computers. This crucial technical transition is the primary reason behind the temporary suspension of updates.

Timeline for Resolution and Future Upgrades

Providing much-needed relief, the A.G. office has assured employees and shared a definitive timeline to fix the issue. According to the department:

  • By the period of July to August, all pending GPF subscription updates will be successfully processed and integrated into the system.
  • The comprehensive Annual Statement will accurately reflect all these updated financial details.
  • As a significant improvement, once the new system is fully operational, employees will start receiving their GPF updates every single month, replacing the old quarterly system.
